Non-users

Though, few of them don’t have the idea about the menstrual cups. Majority of the non-users are familiar with them, but have a lot of questions regarding the use and sanitary properties of the cup.

It looks scary to them to place something inside vagina. They inquire about usage, size, hygienic and any leakage during use.

After the clarification by the users from the peer group, non-users feel good to explore the menstrual cups.  Let’s understand our body to live healthy both mentally and physically.

Following are the compilation of views from the Simple Indian Moms to understand better about the menstrual cups

Pros

  • Comfortable. Comfortable through day to day activities.
  • Saves money and long-lasting. menstrual cups can last up to a decade with proper care, instead of spending lots of money on tampons and pads
  • Eco-friendly– reduces waste generated by pads and tampons
  • Chemical free-Unlike pads and tampons, menstrual cups don’t contain odor neutralizers, scents or other chemicals
  • Hygienic – It is hygienic and promotes better vaginal health. Tampons and pads absorb your natural vaginal fluid, which may increase the risk of bacterial infection. But the cup just collects the menstrual blood.

Cons

  • Inserting the cup and removing can be tricky. Be patient and practice, it’s so worth it.
  • Emptying the cup can be messy, but by practice, you can quickly get over it.
  • Young girls may find it difficult to insert the cups
  • Sometimes anatomy decides the fit. In case of having fibroids or a dropped uterus, proper fitting is not possible.
  • Need to sterilize properly after each cycle.

Need to learn to

  • Practice how to fold and insert a cup
  • Practice how to remove the cup.
  • Understand your flow and how often you should remove, clean and reinsert.
  • Relax the vaginal muscle which is important to insert and remove the cups.
