Top 5 freelance writing sites for writers

If you consider yourself to be a good writer and want to make a career of writing, you can easily begin with some sites that bring the project provider and writer on a single platform. You can easily bid on the project that suits you and begin earning money on the internet.

Although there are several good and reputable freelace writing sites that are reliable, the five I have chosen to describe here come from my own experience and are free to register.

  1. Freelancer.com

Freelancer.com is probably one of the most known websites around the world among freelancers. Well, it is the first place where almost every person who begins his/her career as a freelancer finds a job. This makes them sell their talent really cheap so as to get some work.

Although this is damaging the whole industry it still is a good source of work for people with minimum experience. Freelancer.com is FREE, for all they take 5% commission on work paid to you. The number of bids also are quite high and they keep increasing the number every month.

Thus for beginners this is a good place to learn how to bid and also learn various technicalities involved in producing quality work.

If you are a beginner and want to start your freelancing career register here.

2. Elance.com

Elance.com is another very popular and yet professionally sound freelance market place providing opportunities to people of all walks of life. You would find decent project postings in every area whether it is writing or web designing or even architecture.

There are three types of membership accounts varying from Free to $39.95 per month. The service charge too is on the higher end charging between 6.75% to 8.75% for paid jobs. However most works are genuine and verified.

3. Guru.com

Guru is designed to serve as a platform for all kinds of freelance jobs and is quite active in terms of providing job bulletins and updates. Although there is a free membership it is very hard to get a project through it.

If you are a person who is serious about getting the right job you can shoose a paid membership that ranges from $29.95 to $99.95 on quaterly basis. Commission taken ranges from 5% to 10% on paid jobs.

4. Odesk.com

For starting your freelance career Odesk.com is another good place. There are a lot of options for writers which includes both hourly payment and article based payment. Odesk offers a good tracking system for hourly jobs and this helps both the writer and the project provider to keep in track of the number of hours worked

The average pay too is quite higher than other similar sites such as freelancer.com.commissions charged too is lowerthan 3%. It is advisable to take the domain tests in Odesk which enables you to get more prominence among other bidders.

You can register in Odesk here

5. Craigslist.org

Craigslist is a real pandoras box, and has been a secret money maker for many freelancers. There is no need to register or bid. You can apply to any project provider directly and send your profile with contact address.

However, you have got to be very carefull because such direct contact and no charges spent on contacting writers has lead to a lot of misuse by scammers.

You can apply to projects that suits you from any part of the world and this makes craigslist more popular among people who do not know how to bid on other freelancing sites.
