Every woman shares a love-hate relationship with the sun!

Can?t live without it! Can?t stand it! Can?t run from it! Can?t hide from it!

Well, you sure can do nothing about it, can you? Complain all you want but the sun isn?t going anywhere and you cannot survive without our lovely sun, so it?s up to you to protect your skin from the harsh ultraviolet radiations.

Usage of a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) on all uncovered skin surface is a must, whether you are indoors or outdoors.

However, the natural remedies work very well for sun repair and detan which can be made from simple ingredients available at home.

  • Potato:

Yes! This humble versatile vegetable is a great detanner and blemish remover. Just slice up a small potato & rub the slice on your face as soon as you come from outside. Leave for 30 minutes and wash it off.

  • Lemon:

It is a natural bleaching agent. Apply the juice of lemon on your face and wash after a while. The tingling sensation you experience is because of the acidic nature of lemon, which makes it a good antibacterial. You can dilute it with little water if skin is very sensitive.

Also take note not to step into the sun soon after using lemon juice as your skin becomes photosensitive. Applying at night is a good choice.

  • Cucumber:

The cooling effect of cucumber is well known. Application of its juice soon after sun exposure cools the inflamed skin.

  • Aloe Vera:

This beautiful green plant has a long list of beauty uses. The pulp is great for sunburnt areas. Just slice open the leaf along the length, scoop out the gel and apply it all over the face and limbs. Allow to dry and wash off. You may also allow it to remain so on your face and apply your make up on it. You would also be able to see a difference in general health of your skin.

  • Papaya:

The enzyme papain is good for clearing the skin of spots and enhancement of complexion. Mash the pulp and apply on the face, let it for 15 minutes. You can add honey to this mixture for better results.

  • Tomato:

Yet another vegetable whose anti-spot properties we tend to overlook. Rub the tomato slice on your face and leave for half an hour. It shrinks pores and reduces sebum secretion. This is particularly good for those with oily skin.

  • Sandalwood:

The cooling nature of sandal can really help your skin healing in summer.

Sandal paste can be prepared from the bark or powder can be store-brought. Mix with little milk or rosewater and apply on affected areas.

  • Yogurt:

The acidic property of curd (lactic acid) is good for bleaching the skin.

  • Gram flour:

A good exfoliator, the flour of Bengal gram can be used as a daily cleanser instead of soap. Mix gram flour, honey, lemon juice, yogurt and turmeric for an effective skin brightener.

  • Oats:

When mixed with milk, oats acts as an exfoliator and opens up the pores, removes blackhead and leaves a smooth, clear skin

  • Strawberry:

Mash up 1-2 strawberries with yogurt & apply on the face. Their combined acidic property is good for detanning skin.

You may use these separately or combine 1-2 of these ingredients to easily remove suntan from your skin!
